Triggerfish, specialty contact lens patients with glaucoma - People who have glaucoma may be assisted by an electric device that will control their condition through a small antenna. In a study conducted at the University of California, San Diego, researchers looked at 40 patients who used a tool called Triggerfish this. About 36 of the 40 jerseys, Triggerfish proved able to deliver a report on the condition of glaucoma patients.
Glaucoma is due to the high pressure in the eye (intraocular pressure or IOP). IOP levels vary during the day, so that means regular testing is done is through the examination of IOP for 24 hours in the laboratory. Even so, the results obtained are not reliable in measuring IOP pressure during sleep.
By using the Triggerfish has two small gauges, pressure IOP in eyes will be known through a small antenna attached to the skin around the eyes. After that, the antenna will continue to update on a data storage device used in the patient's waist. More sensitive monitoring using these tools will help physicians to provide care to each patient.
"This study shows that contact lenses are a safe and well tolerated for use in glaucoma patients," the researchers said, as reported by Thirdage.com
